If You’ve Never Sold a Business Before, That’s Normal

You spend years building something, then at some point you start thinking about selling. You may realise, you’re not actually sure how it works.

You might be looking at different brokers, reading different things online and hearing completely different answers.

How to get started with us?

Step 1 - You send us an Enquiry

You can reach out by phone or through our contact page.

At this stage, it’s simply about starting the conversation. You don’t need to have everything prepared or figured out.

Step 2 - We'll have a short initial Call

We’ll have a short, confidential discussion to understand your situation, what you’re thinking, and what you’re aiming for.

At this stage, we’ll also get a quick sense of the business and whether it makes sense to continue for both parties. 

If it does, we’ll continue the conversation and look at things in a bit more detail.

Step 3 - We'll ask for some more detail

We’ll ask for a short overview of the business.

This gives us a clearer picture of how things are set up and avoids having to make assumptions.

It’s a simple questionnaire and usually takes around 5–10 minutes to complete.

You don’t need to have everything prepared. A rough outline is enough at this stage.

Step 4 - Review & Suggest your pathway to sell

We review everything and come back to you with a clear recommendation on what makes sense from here.

This will usually fall into one of the following:

Where Your Business is Likely to Sit

  • Your business is in a position where it can go to market without creating unnecessary risk.

     

  • We’ll put a proposal in front of you outlining our fees and the initial marketing cost.

     

  • Once that’s agreed, we’ll get the agreements in place, prepare the marketing package, and list your business for sale.

     

  • From there, it’s about managing the process properly through to completion.

  • A lot of businesses we speak to aren’t quite ready to go to market yet
 
  • In those cases, it usually makes more sense to take a step back and get a few things right first.
 
  • This is a structured three to six month process where we identify what needs improving and focus on what will actually make a difference to value and how the business is received by buyers.
 
  • The goal is simple. Improve the position before going to market.
 
  • We see a noticeable difference in both value and how smoothly the process runs when this is done properly.

Not quite there (Yet)

  • In some cases, it’s simply not the right time to go to market.
 
  • That might be due to how the business is structured, ownership not being set up properly, or areas that would make a sale difficult.
 
  • If we don’t think we can add value or sell it properly, we won’t take it on.
 
  • We’d rather be clear upfront than take your money and put you through a process that isn’t going to work.
